General Information

Programme Goal

The National Diploma programme is designed to produce computer personnel capable of applying the use of computers in most areas of data analysis.

Objective of the Programme

Diplomats of this programme should be able to:

  1. Operate Computer systems
  2. Use various Computer packages
  3. Maintain hardware
  4. Solve simple hardware problems
  5. Use various programming languages:
    1. Visual Basic,
    2. OO Fortan,
    3. OO Cobol,
    4. and Java
  6. Use the Internet
  7. Set up Network
  8. Set up and manage an enterprise

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS: NATIONAL DIPLOMA

The entry requirements into the National Diploma Computer Science programme are as follows:-

    1. Five credit level passes in GCE “O” level, Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSCE), NECO and NABTEB at not more than two sittings in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and two other subjects chosen from the following: Economics, Geography, Further Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Agricultural Science. A Pass in Physics is compulsory for Computer Science and Relevant NTC/NBC & NVC Trades Plus JAMB Examination as resolved by National Policy on Education.
    2. A pass in the Computer Foundation Examination (CFE) of the Computer Professionals Registration Council of Nigeria (CPN). The student must be prima fascia qualified as in (a) above.
  2. JAMB result with a score not less than the prescribed cut off mark for Polytechnic for that admission year.

HIGHER NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN COMPUTER SCIENCE

Goal and Objectives of the programme

The programme is designed to produce graduates with knowledge and skills in computing to meet the national and global manpower needs

OBJECTIVES OF THE PROGRAMME

Graduates of this programme should be able to:

  1. Manage and optimise Operating Systems
  2. Design and implement programs for solving problems
  3. Manage computer installations and ICT centres
  4. Troubleshoot Computer Installations.
  5. Carry out routine maintenance of Computer facilities
  6. Setup and manage Network Systems
  7. Design and manage Database systems
  8. Expand Business Enterprise

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS - Higher National Diploma

The minimum entry requirement into the Higher National Diploma in Computer Science is as follows:

  1. The National Diploma in Computer Science obtained from an accredited programme, with at least the lower credit pass or
  2. The Nigerian certificates in Education with major in Computer Education, at not more than the merit level pass
  3. CPE I of CPN with at least the lower Credit.

In addition to (a), (b) and (c) above the candidate must have acquired not less than one year post ND/NCE/PCE I cognate work experience.
In exceptional cases, ND diplomats with a pass (CGPA of 2.0-2.49) in the ND examination with two or more years of cognate experience in the specific field may be considered for admission into the HND programme
