GENERAL INFORMATION

CERTIFICATION AND TITLE OF THE PROGRAMME:

The certificate to be awarded and the programme title shall read: “NATIONAL DIPLOMA IN SCIENCE LABORATORY TECHNOLOGY”

Goals and Objectives

The National Diploma Programme in Science Laboratory Technology is designed to produce Technicians capable of assisting the Technologist in various laboratory analyses and practical work.

On completion of this programme, the diplomate should be able to:

  1. Assist in chemical and biochemical analyses and quality control in: industry (oil, food, brewing, detergent, textiles, etc.), hospitals, schools, colleges and research institutions;
  2. Assist in physics and electronic laboratories with physical analyses and the maintenance of instruments;
  3. Assist in biological and microbiological analyses and experiments in hospitals, schools, colleges and research institutes;
  4. Work as sales, marketing, administration and management representative in the industries
  5. Set up his/her own business

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS - NATIONAL DIPLOMA

Entry requirements for the National Diploma in Science Laboratory Technology programme include at least a minimum score in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), five credit passes at not more than two sittings in West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), National Technical Certificate (NTC), General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary level, or the West African Examination Certificate (WAEC), NABTEB, NECO, in relevant subjects. The relevant subjects are: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology
